Our Justice and Community Outreach Ministries are non-sectarian
initiatives of the church, with no discrimination because
of age, faith or creed, gender, income, race, or sexual orientation.
The outreach ministries are available seven days a week to
all residents in Newport News and surrounding areas. We provide
food as well as nutrition education, medical and personal
care, on-site HIV/AIDS testing and education, substance abuse
counseling, emergency assistance, housing assistance, day
shelter, mail and telephone services, and basic hygiene care
(laundry, showers, dental care). Most importantly, St. Paul’s
is a good place where people may find rest, friends, and opportunities
to serve God and neighbor.
Most of the people served by our outreach ministries are
single adult men; single women and single parents with young
children also find services of care and support here. Many
of the adults have long histories of mental and physical illness,
including mental retardation, drug addiction, and HIV/AIDS.
Many others lack formal education and struggle to access networks
of support and care.
The Rector and other part-time staff oversee all outreach
activity at St. Paul’s. They are assisted by 120 active
volunteers who come from churches, organizations, and companies
from all areas of Hampton Roads.
